Business Development and Operations
As Jim Scovell’s daughter, Kylie has grown up in and around the company, developing a love for interior design through her constant exposure to the company’s projects.
A brief stint living in and being surrounded by the the incredible architecture of New Orleans coupled with three personal house remodels in Kansas City were enough to convince Kylie that she wanted to pursue a career involving homes. What she didn’t know at the time was how hard she’d fall for the business side of residential remodeling. So despite having always dreamed of being an interior designer, Kylie now leaves the designing to others, and as a minority partner in the company, focuses on the day to day management of the business, as well as meeting with prospective clients to talk about their potential projects.
She’s most likely the first person you’ll talk to if you call the office to discuss your remodeling plans, and she’ll help you to walk through the Scovell Remodeling process. The most satisfying days of work for Kylie are the days where she brings in a photographer at the end of a project. Nothing more rewarding than looking at Before and Afters! In fact, here’s a before and after of Kylie’s past home in Brookside.
Kylie has three children, Annie, Quig and Jimmy, with her husband John. And recently, in a moment of weakness, as though their house wasn’t full enough already, she let her kids adopt an abandoned black lab named Willie Nelson. Speaking of her house, check out her latest home remodel over on our blog.
Pat joined Scovell Remodeling in 1999 as a Lead Carpenter with the responsibilities of overseeing the progress of specific projects for which he was assigned.
He is a highly skilled carpenter with experience in all facets of residential remodeling with 32 years’ experience in the industry, including owning his own company for more than five years in the mid 1980’s.
Within the first year at Scovell Remodeling, Pat had proven himself worthy of a promotion to Production Manager where he went on to serve for a little more than 15 years. His responsibilities focused on overseeing and managing multiple remodeling projects as well as estimating the costs associated with them. These projects ranged in size from small bathroom remodels to whole house renovations and room additions. Recently, Pat moved from his position as Production Manager into a role as the company’s Estimator. With his extensive background, he now heads up the Design & Estimating department, working with our designer to develop and bid projects for our clients.
Pat has personally overseen over 100 remodeling jobs throughout the Kansas City area and due to his diligence has earned the company recognition through a number of different awards, some fairly significant. In the Country Club Plaza district, the company received a Kansas City Homes and Gardens, 2003 “Gold Award” for a “Whole House Remodel” in the Alameda Towers (one of Kansas City’s premier condominium high rises).
In 2006, Pat’s hard work won the company a 1st Place award for a “Whole House Remodel” in the NARI (National Association of the Remodeling Industry) Contractor of the Year (CotY) competition for a home in Mission Hills. More recently, Pat’s persistence won an additional NARI award a 2012 REMY (Remodeler of the Year) for “Lower Level Finishes over $100,000”. In 2017, one of his Master Suite designs and projects won the company yet another regional CotY award.
He holds the company’s license certification for Kansas City, Missouri; has two NARI certifications – CR or “Certified Remodeler” (earned in 2006) and GCP or “Green Certified Professional” (earned in 2009); as well, Pat caries the CAPS or “Certified Aging in Place” designation from the Home Builders Association.
On a personal side, Pat has been very active with his Church serving in different capacities over the years. He has volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, “Christmas in October” projects and within the last few years has worked alongside other church members in performing a couple of fairly significant remodels for special needs parishioners to make their homes accessible.
He has been happily married to his wife, Gibrette, for 35 years and they are the parents of four children and several grandchildren. His son Patrick is a carpenter for Scovell Remodeling making a career in residential remodeling – following in his father’s footsteps.
