I still remember when the call came through a couple years ago. A woman had seen this picture in an advertisement in Spaces Magazine:
And it dawned on her that just as this bathroom in the ad was once the sleeping porch of an old Brookside home, so too could her Brookside sleeping porch become like this bathroom. She gave us a call and that’s just what we did.
Their 4 bedroom home – which finds itself on the Historical Registry in Kansas City – had only two full bathrooms and could no doubt use another. And as it happened, their sleeping porch adjoined the master bedroom and was largely under-utilized. So we converted it into this fabulous white and gold master en suite, complete with clawfoot tub, marble shower, and custom his and hers vanities.
Believe it or not the before picture above and the after picture below were each taken from the exact same angle. The left window of the before picture is now in their water closet, while the right window got covered up in favor of the shower stall.
The client fell in love with Kohler’s Purist line in brushed gold. Kohler didn’t provide an option for a tub filler in this finish, so we had a different model custom plated to match.
The floor (heated) is a marble hex, while the counters and shower seat are made of quartz.
With windows on three sides, the natural light floods this space like you can’t imagine. You should have seen the extreme gyrations we went through holding up a white blanket to block the onslaught of light so the photographer wouldn’t be over-exposed: finger tips as high as they’d go, toes on their tips and hold dead still!!
But all worth it to photograph this beautiful bathroom.
