Additions

Additions are a great option when you love your location but your house just isn’t keeping up. The key is making sure the new space feels like it belongs and not like it was tacked on later. We’re thoughtful about scale, rooflines, and flow so that when it’s done, it’s hard to tell where the original house stops and the addition begins.

Is it cheaper to build up or build out?

As with all things - it can depend. But more often than not, it’s less expensive to go out, rather than up. It’s pretty rare that a home’s foundation and structure is meant for a second floor if it doesn’t already have one. So, making the modifications necessary to accommodate a second floor addition, in addition to the roof-line work, etc., can make for a pricey renovation. Building a room addition on the back or side of your house can allow for more of a clean slate. Plus, it often gives us the opportunity to do one of our favorite things - vault the ceiling!

FAQs

We’ve had small home additions completed in as little as 14 weeks, and large whole home renovations that include a large addition take 11-12 months, and everything in between. As part of the design process, we’ll walk you through a projected timeline so you have a clear understanding of what to expect from start to finish.

We build room additions, second-story additions, attic conversions, sunrooms, detached garages and expanded living areas. If you can dream it, we can build it.

Yes, this is always one of our primary objectives. We approach design in a way that the new addition looks as though it was original to the house.

Yes, and we handle the entire permitting process for you.
"I would highly recommend Scovell to anyone and everyone. We did a kitchen addition, mudroom remodel, and added a covered patio. We have an old house (1927) and really wanted the design to be functional but look natural like it could have been part of the original build, and they absolutely nailed it. From start to finish it was white glove – they think of everything and they take care of everything."
