Mudrooms

How did we ever function without the advent of the mudroom? They’re not just for jackets and shoes anymore. They’re for tennis rackets and school permission slips, too. We design mudrooms for what you need and for what you don’t want living on your kitchen counter or on your entryway floor. Mudrooms are that practical, well-worn transition space between the outdoors and your home.

Is there a sure fire way to make the mudroom not end up looking messy?

I always worry when a client thinks that we can design them into an un-messy life. Lockers and ample cabinetry go a long way. But let’s have some real talk - ok? Life is simply messy! Shoes get kicked off. Backpacks dropped. Mail scattered. Keys thrown. We will give you every trick we’ve learned about designing cabinetry to contain the mess and store the sports gear. We’ll propose the most durable flooring. We’ll even install a docking drawer for all that charging. And your life will improve! It will be a gift that everything has its place. When friends come over for a party you’ll have a place for everything to be put away and pretty. But, then, real life will start up again on Monday and it will be a mess again. Embrace it!

FAQs

Anymore, clients love a good charging station in a mudroom, and somewhere to wrangle all those pesky cords. Most homeowners also love to incorporate lockers – one for either kid; but we’re still partial to a traditional coat closet somewhere in the mix. Regardless, we always sprinkle in as many hooks as we can.

Yes, storage planning is a major part of mudroom design. We’ll ask you to take inventory of everything you want to store in there from light bulbs to paperwork and we’ll consider the best way to keep everything accessible and organized.

Yes, we’ve carved space out of lots of underutilized rooms to create a functional little mudroom. With the right design, even a compact area can become a highly functional mudroom with organized storage and better flow.
"I would highly recommend Scovell to anyone and everyone. We did a kitchen addition, mudroom remodel, and added a covered patio. We have an old house (1927) and really wanted the design to be functional but look natural like it could have been part of the original build, and they absolutely nailed it. From start to finish it was white glove – they think of everything and they take care of everything."
