Whole Home Remodeling

Whole home remodeling is less about making everything new and more about making everything make sense. We’re looking at flow, proportion, and how one decision impacts the next because a beautiful kitchen doesn’t matter much if it doesn’t connect well to the rest of your house. When it’s done right, the entire home feels intentional instead of pieced together over time. When we’re tackling a whole home renovation, we zoom out and rethink how your entire house works together, from layout to finishes, so it feels cohesive, functional, and aligned with how you live day to day.

There’s so much to do - Should I phase it or knock it out at once?

Phasing is so tempting! It certainly seems to appear more manageable. But there are some downsides. A bathroom that takes 3 months to remodel and a kitchen that takes 5 months to remodel can be done simultaneously in a single 5 month time frame. If you opt for phasing, now you’re living through 8 months of construction in total! You’re also doubling up on design time, and you’ll wind up paying for project management twice. So, if you can do a whole home remodel in one fell swoop, we encourage it.

Sometimes, it’s not feasible financially. And we’d always rather you tackle fewer rooms and do those well. Then wait to restock your reserves before remodeling the next area of your house. In those cases, we still advise that you do a comprehensive, end-game floorplan up front. We’d hate for you to do something in Phase 1 that you regret once you start planning Phase 2. Having a grasp on what you ultimately want the house to look and feel like does a lot toward avoiding the need to undo things later.

FAQs

Whole home remodeling timelines vary based on the size of the space, level of customization, and overall project scope. Most whole home scopes take somewhere between 6 and 10 months, but we’ve also designed extensive projects that require a full calendar year. As part of the design process, we’ll walk you through a projected timeline so you have a clear understanding of what to expect from start to finish.

When you’re tackling the majority of a home, it’s always best to relocate during construction. There could be long stretches without water or electricity. Not to mention there will be sawdust everywhere!

We approach all of our projects the same way. Project managers internally keep schedules on track using our cloud-based gantt chart software. We hold weekly on-site meetings with clients and send weekly Friday recaps.

Where code is involved, yes. Where character-only is involved, we prefer it old! Give us all the original millwork we can have.
"We absolutely loved our experience with Scovell this year, completing essentially a whole-house renovation. They reconfigured our kitchen, laundry room, and gave us a mudroom, all without having to add square footage. They did a wonderful job renovating our primary suite and replacing our stairs. And they nailed their estimated timeline right on."
